QuickTime 5 not recognized under IE on Windows after upgrading QT
Created: 4/11/2001    Updated: 6/7/2001
Q   I had QuickTime v4 installed on my Windows machine under IE and BrowserHawk detected it perfectly. Then I had to uninstall QuickTime for some reason and reinstall it later. After this uninstall/reinstall, BrowserHawk no longer is detecting that QT as installed.

A   Under Windows, part of the QuickTime software from Apple is an OCX that does not seem to get properly registered once QT is uninstalled and reinstalled. We have also seen this when upgrading from QT 4 to QT 5. We have reported this issue to Apple. This issue only seems to happen to some machines, not all.

To resolve the issue find the QuickTimeCheck.ocx file on your computer (by default in your system or system32 directory) and run "regsvr32" on the OCX to reregister it. Once this is properly registered BrowserHawk should once again detect it. If this does not work, or you cannot find the ocx file on your system, try uninstalling and then resintalling QT 5. This will likely resolve the issue.
