How can I log the reverse DNS results into the stats database?
Created: 2/18/2003    Updated: 3/3/2003
Q   I have the Enterprise edition of BrowserHawk and want to log the ResolveIP results into BrowserHawk Reports. However, when I went to check this option in the BH editor under Reporting Options --> select properties I could not find it.

How I can log this with the rest of the stats?

A   BrowserHawk provides reverse DNS functionality through the ResolveIP method. Since this is a method, and not a direct BrowserHawk property, there is no corresponding column in the reports database dedicated to logging the results of this method.

However you can accomplish the what you are after simply by using one of the custom data fields to log this value. BrowserHawk enables you to store up to 5 custom fields of data in each row in the stats table.

To implement this, you simply a) obtain the reverse DNS lookup by using the ResolveIP method and store the returned string into a local variable, and then b) when logging stats with the LogData method, pass this variable in for one of the custom fields. See the LogData method for more information on logging custom data.
