Q   How reliable is the popup blocker detection? Does it work in all browsers?

A   The detection of blocked popups is extremely accurate and works with all IE, Netscape, Firefox, Mozilla, Safari, and Opera browsers. BrowserHawk will detect if popups are blocked regardless of the reason. For instance if popups are blocked due to the use of a toolbar, a third party blocker software, or settings directly in the browser, BrowserHawk will correctly identify the popups as blocked.

Although the use of popup windows certainly has a bad reputation, there are a number of legitimate uses for popups windows by professional web developers.

Just as a few examples, many developers need to popup a new window in order to control the size and navigation of the browser (and which buttons are available), or want to popup a window to warn the user that a session is about to timeout and their work will be lost if not saved.

By using BrowserHawk's popup blocker detection, developers can take proactive action upfront with the user, rather than just assuming popups are not blocked and then running into problems when trying to pop open the new window.
